Burnout Podcast

A four-part podcast series exploring the growing crisis of systematic burnout and mental health.

Following a global pandemic and the “Great Resignation,” among healthcare workers and those adjusting to working from home, corporate leaders and gig workers, burnout is on the rise. Mindful is teaming up with Lemonada Media to present a new podcast series that examines the impacts of burnout on our professional and personal lives. Burnout looks into how society reached this burning point and what we can do—really, actually do—to break the cycle. We explore the story of burnout, how it affects your body and mind, and why the easy solutions simply won’t work to solve a systemic problem.

Hosted by Connor Franta, this hopeful, clarifying, and solutions-oriented series will help us all develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be living with burnout and offer a roadmap and online community for a different (productive, but joyful) path ahead.

Listen to Burnout Podcast Episodes:

Episode 1: We Can’t Live Like This Anymore

Burnout. It’s all over the news, it’s all over your social feeds. You’re probably living some version of it, but aren’t sure what it is and how to change it. Let’s take a closer look at the physiology of burnout together. We’ll look at the history of how we talk about burnout, and learn about how it can show up differently in different people.

Episode 2: When We All Show Up Burned Out At Work

In March 2020, when the pandemic hit, Chris Smalls was an hourly worker at a warehouse in Staten Island. Today, he is the president of the Amazon Labor Union. In this episode, we learn about how working conditions can contribute to burnout in workplaces across America. We’ll also hear about what we can all do to redesign workplaces to avoid burnout.

Episode 3: Breaking Free from Hustle Culture

Before Shannon quit her job in talent management, work was so taxing that she would dream of being admitted to the hospital, just so she’d have a good excuse to not answer her email. In this episode, explore the dissonance of a society that asks us to choose between health, family and our career. We also explore ways to help us survive and thrive in the midst of hustle culture.

Episode 4: The System Was Built This Way, But We Can Rebuild It

This week, we look at how burnout is inevitable in a system set up to squeeze all the juice out of its workforce. Everyone’s suffering. Does it have to be this way? We don’t think so. Listen to find hope in a burned-out world: for you, for all of us.
