As a beauty writer, I’m always trying new skin, hair, makeup, nail, and fragrance products (phew!). The ultra-hydrating tinted lip balms are formulated with plumping hyaluronic acid (which is known to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water), firming and smoothing maracuja oil, softening grapeseed oil, soothing watermelon extract, and a bevy of other nourishing superfruit ingredients.
What makes them really stand out, though, is their fun, pH-powered formula. Since our lips (and skin in general) leans acidic, it reacts with the lip balms to create custom colors within a general shade range. For example, the Blueberry Lip Shift transforms from baby blue to a pretty purple-pink tint, the Kiwi Lip Shift melts from light green to the perfect shade of pink, and the Grape Lift Shift transitions from lavender to a cool, magenta-y pink. What I like about the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Shift Color-Changing Balms
As someone who tests a lot of lip products, the Tarte Color-Changing Balm is a dream come true for my everyday needs. It’s intensely hydrating, glides on with ease and, never leaves lips feeling sticky.
After I swipe it on, my lips look notably poutier and more moisturized, and the color is perfect for feeling put together, even on days when I don’t want to wear anything besides my favorite Mayfair sweat sets. (Side note: Mayfair sweats are another of my 2023 top finds—they’re thick, soft, and so high quality. I’m obsessed.) This is important because I feel like many tinted balms look too purposefully tinted to look natural with low-key lounge outfits and no-makeup days.
