After a four-year hiatus, the Fit Bottomed Girls are back! As a well-established OG fitness blog for women, it may have seemed odd that we seemingly fell off the face of the earth for a while there. But what can we say? Sometimes life gets in the way and forces us to take a step back and re-evaluate.

Just like many of you who’ve had to put your own health and fitness goals on hold to prioritize other things for a while, we’re in a place where it’s time to bounce back with renewed energy and purpose. We invite all women, especially those over 35, to join us in this comeback era by reinvesting in yourselves.

Back to Our Fitness Blog for Women Roots

More than 16 years ago when FBG was created, the women’s health and fitness space was all about eating 1200-1500 calories per day and exercising purely for maximum calorie burn. But it was clear to us that the perpetual pursuit of weight loss and trying to be skinny at any cost often felt like we were trying to “hate ourselves healthy” and when that inevitably failed, it led us into a downward spiral of self-loathing.

Our mission became to break the cycle, disrupt the diet-culture narrative, and introduce a fresh perspective—one where women trained and fueled to be strong, confident, and badass. We wanted something better for future generations of women. We wanted a future where women didn’t look to the scale for validation of their worth.

In the years that followed, we worked tirelessly toward that mission and, as a result, the industry began to shift and change. Body-positive messaging began to pop up everywhere. An alternative to diet culture appeared and women were seeking it out.

As stoked as we were to see that vision become reality, we were faced with a new challenge—what to do next? We found ourselves feeling that we’d said everything we needed to say, accomplished what we set out to do. And as the Covid pandemic hit, life had begun to pull us in different directions toward futures that didn’t include the continuation of the FBG brand.

So in 2020, we put the blog on hold, hung up the mic, and wrestled with the future of FBG.

The Comeback Story

Life is full of twists and turns that can ultimately distract us and move our focus away from our own personal goals. It’s not always easy to prioritize health and fitness when everything else gets in the way. But as we’ve learned during our break, never count yourself out for good—a well-timed comeback can be pretty sweet!

While life has pulled former owners Jenn and Kristen away from the helm of Fit Bottomed Girls, they hand-picked Alison to take over—which they talk candidly about in this podcast episode. Alison, a long-time FBG contributor, was chosen because of her extensive expertise in women’s health and fitness, especially for women in peri- and post-menopause, which means that the FBG brand is now fully-equipped to continue to support women of all ages and through every era of life.

We’ve grown, we’ve changed, and now we’re ready to expand and reignite our mission.

Our Mission and Values

Since 2008, The Fit Bottomed Girls have been disrupting the toxic diet-culture narrative and introducing a fresh perspective — one where women ditched the diet drama, stopped looking to the scale for validation of their worth, and instead trained and fueled for better quality of life and to be strong, confident, and badass.

We believe that better health and fitness should be more fun, accessible, and attainable for everybody. And we’re here to help you get stronger, go longer, feel better, and learn to appreciate your fit bottom — no matter where you are on your journey. Because, after all, fit bottoms come in all shapes, sizes, and ages! Our new tagline, perfectly encapsulates this philosophy: “Your bottom. Your life. Your way.”

We are here to support athletic, active, and adventurous women (and those who aspire to be) of all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Our mission has always been to educate and empower women to train and fuel for a better quality of life, focusing on strength, confidence, and being unapologetically badass.

Our values will continue to guide us, including:

  • Simplicity: Offering straightforward, uncomplicated, approachable advice for busy women.
  • Autonomy: Encouraging women to exercise their own body autonomy without judgment.
  • Integrity: Committing to honest, ethical, and evidence-based content.
  • Inclusion: Welcoming all levels, shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds.

What to Expect from the Re-launch

After more than 16 years, we remain committed to creating compelling, empowering, and educational lifestyle, health, and fitness content for active, athletic, and adventurous women (and those who aspire to be) through every era of life.

This week, we’re kicking off with a series of exciting content to welcome back our beloved community.
