If you want to lose weight, an excellent place to start is by making changes in your diet. And one of those changes should be to eat more anti-inflammatory foods. Although research suggests that inflammation may not cause weight gain, those who are overweight and obese do have higher levels of chronic, low-grade inflammation compared to those with lower BMIs. That’s likely because being overweight is associated with higher levels of fat cells that release pro-inflammatory markers. This chronic inflammation can put you at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, neurodegeneration, and some types of cancer, so…
According to a recent study by the American Cancer Society, cancer is a leading cause of death among those of Hispanic heritage living in the U.S. Hispanic and Latino people are less likely to be diagnosed with lung, colon, breast and prostate cancers than non-Hispanic white men and women. When it comes to talking about vaginal smells of any sort, I’m firmly on “Team Normalize That Vaginas and Vulvas Aren’t Supposed to Smell Like Fruit or Flowers” because, well, that’s not what they are. In fact, a perfectly healthy vagina can smell sour, bittersweet, or metallic due to normal variations in vaginal flora (aka the mix of yeast and bacteria within the vagina) caused by anything from changes in your diet or your sweat levels to hormonal shifts, and yes, your period. But what does it mean when a vaginal smell lingers post-period or shows up afterward? According to…
Kathleen Stewart was used to waiting for test results. She’d been called back for additional mammogram images many times and had already undergone two biopsies of suspicious areas in her breasts. In March 2022, as she waited for a call about the results of a breast biopsy, the resident of La Crosse, Wisconsin, felt she already knew what they would be. “I had already had that internal conversation that if I was diagnosed, I knew what I would do,” Kathleen says. Sometimes I dream about how pleasant life would be if I didn’t get my period every month. I wouldn’t have to deal with brain fog or cramps, or worry about whether or not I have any tampons in my house (or scramble when I realize I definitely do not). I also wouldn’t have to force myself to function when all I really want to do, at least for a day or two, is cozy up in bed and nap. When my period hits, my energy crashes, and I transform into a slothier version of myself—and I know I’m not alone.Fatigue…
