When it comes to making meal preparation easier, the culinary innovations just seem to keep on coming. From the Vitamix and the Instant Pot to the air fryer and chewable ice maker, Keeping Up with Kitchen Appliances may as well be the next new show to help us stay on top of them (Food Network, you reading?).But today, we’re celebrating one of the OG cooking gadgets: the food processor. Practical, quick, and equally good for chopping carrots as for blending brownie batter, it may not be a novelty item, but it’s certainly a handy one. Whether you have a budget…
Audrey Hepburn was an icon. Rising to fame in the 1950s, she was one of the greatest actresses of her era. In 1953, Hepburn became the first actress to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award for a single performance: her leading role in the romantic comedy Roman Holiday. Even today, over half a century later, she remains one of just 15 people to earn an “EGOT” by winning all four major entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. By the 1960s, she was averaging more than one new film per year and, by everyone’s…
POV: You’re reminiscing about your first few dates with your long-term partner. You know, the time when you used to bonk like bunnies? Back then, it was physically impossible to keep your hands off each other, but now the idea of engaging in spontaneous lovemaking with your S.O. sounds, well, meh.If you can relate, you may be going through a period of low sex drive, also known as low libido.Libido is affected by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors known as the biopsychosocial model, says New York-based gynecologist Dr. Alyssa Dweck, MD. “Bio-” refers to medical conditions such…
Many people assume that motherhood puts an endcap on athletic performance. Are you a runner? Your fastest days are behind you. A deadlift PR? Better not try it. All those outdoor adventures you’ve dreamed about? Well, you should have checked them off your bucket list before your kids came along. The idea that your athletic pursuits are over the moment you give birth or start responding to “mom” couldn’t be farther from the truth. For professional and everyday athletes alike, what becoming a mom actually looks like is traveling cross-country with your four-year-old so they can see your race, skipping…
People Pleasing Is Not a Personality Flaw. It is a response to trauma and/or stress that can develop into being one of the primary ways a person deals with challenges. In this way, people-pleasing may look like who you are, but it’s actually something you learned to do. That’s because we are wired to automatically protect ourselves in different ways. Pleasing (or “fawning”) is now recognized as one of four trauma responses (i.e., fight, flight, freeze, and fawn). According to Peter Walker, licensed psychologist and expert in complex trauma, “Fawn types seek safety by merging with the wishes, needs, and…
By Leo Babauta It sometimes amazes me how we make everything harder for ourselves than it needs to be — myself included. That’s not a bad thing — it’s simply human. Harder is not worse. We learn from harder. So there’s a beauty and a sense to it. That said, once we see how much harder we make things, we have an opportunity to … not make it harder. Simplify. Do things with more ease. Before we get into how to do that, let’s look at how we make things harder. How We Make Things Harder for Ourselves We add…
At Costco, the famous rotisserie chicken is the deal to end all deals. For just $4.99, shoppers at the members-only warehouse club can get a whole, fully-cooked bird perfect for meal prepping, easy dinners, or covertly devouring in the Costco parking lot. Like with its famously cheap food court hotdog, Costco is firmly committed to keeping these roasted chickens remarkably affordable. In 2015, Costco’s chief financial officer Richard Galanti said that the company was willing to sacrifice “$30 million, $40 million a year on gross margin by keeping it at $4.99,” according to CNN.
