Out of all of the alcoholic beverages, wine tends to have the most ardent and informed aficionados. So when it comes to creating fine non-alcoholic wines, winemakers have to step up their game to satisfy those picky drinkers that have decided to go booze-free. Though non-alcoholic wines can come close to the experience of sipping on a classic red or bubbly Champagne, it’s tough to replicate a fine, alcoholic wine. NA wine is regular wine that has gone through some processing to remove the alcohol. And often, those methods can strip the wine of other important, flavor-enhancing ingredients like tannins…
You can do anal surfacing on its own or combine it with genital stimulation, or “anal pairing.” Nearly 40% of more than 3,000 people PLOS One surveyed said anal pairing also enhanced other sex acts, so consider adding butt stimulation to the techniques that you know make you (or your partner) feel incredible.Try rubbing your or your partner’s perineum—a.k.a. the area between the butthole and genitals—to wake up the pudendal nerves, which extend from the bottom of the spine to your pelvis and provide sensation to the pelvic region. If you or your partner have a prostate, which helps produce semen and serves as a…
Like most of us, you’ve probably been there: You’re minding your business, milling about your morning routine, only to have the sudden, urgent need to go number two. Such is the reality of drinking coffee. After all, the cult-favorite beverage might be best known for its energy-boosting abilities, but it’s a laxative, too. This is important to keep in mind because, as soul-nourishing as it may feel to sip on an iced coffee while walking through a farmer’s market or embarking on your daily hot girl walk, the practice can lead to a potentially shitty situation—literally. That’s because walking alone…
On Tuesday, Jim Smith of Santa Cruz discovered a mastodon tooth while running on a California beach. Mastodons (large, prehistoric elephants) roamed North and Central America in the Ice Age. Scientists believe they went extinct over 2,000 years ago. Smith wasn’t the first person to spot this particular mastodon tooth. A tourist found the sizable chomper on Rio Del Mar Beach last week. After photos circulated on social media, Wayne Thompson, a paleontology collections advisor for the Santa Cruz County Museum of Natural History, reached out to the woman. “I practically hit the floor. It was a mastodon tooth, right…

From the Huberman Lab podcast to your biohacker buddy’s garage to your social feeds, saunas are everywhere right now. Part of the surge in interest (and sales) is largely thanks to science showing a connection between frequent sauna use and better physical and mental health and maybe even longevity—including some stunning evidence that it may help prevent dementia. Not to mention the whole sauna thing: the community, the relaxation, the ritual, the ahh moment. Most of the research on brain benefits comes from Finland, where sauna bathing is a pillar in the culture of being healthy and happy. The sauna…
Although you may think of your “core” only when you’re doing specific abs moves, you actually use these muscles all day, every day—which is why core exercises are so important. Whether you’re walking, reaching, balancing, getting up from a chair, or simply just standing upright, the muscles of your midsection are firing to keep you stable and supported in nearly every movement.“People usually think of abs when referring to the core, but our core is actually made up of a much more complex network of muscles found in the trunk of our body,” certified personal trainer Brian Abarca, CPT, owner of…
While some make rope climbing look easy, you can rest assured they didn’t breeze up the rope when first starting out. Climbing rope is an intense workout that takes a specific technique (and lots of practice) to nail it. But what about the kids in high school gym class that made climbing rope look like a walk in the park? Chances are, those kids spent lots of time in a setting where climbing rope was practiced. Same with regular CrossFit goers and elite athletes—lots of practice, so don’t fret if you think it’s too hard for you to do. “Climbing…
In the past, if you wanted to indulge your taste for a brew but had sworn off alcohol, your choices were sadly lacking. But with the explosion in craft brewing, non-alcoholic beers are enjoying a renaissance. Now, top breweries are using their in-depth knowledge of alchemy between hops, malts, and grains to make truly tasty near-beers. Of course that doesn’t eliminate the role of moderation. “While these beers may be void of alcohol and therefore not as harsh on the body, it’s probably not a good idea to make it a staple of your diet since the liquid calories can…
In 2005, I decided to have a breast augmentation to give me what I had always thought I was missing…boobs! I was teased in school for having a flat chest and always very self-conscious about it. I had always participated in sports, including gymnastics and track and field, so I had muscular legs and wider hips. I thought getting breast implants would magically make me love my body and myself more. When I had my consultation, I was told how safe the saline implants were. Immediately after the surgery, I was in a lot of pain, but I was told…
